October 19, 2009 - Cranbrook, BC Event Review

In almost any other form of sports, teammates act like teammates.  They live together, they train together, and they compete together.

Fortunately, for the fans of the 2009 Fire and Ice Tour, some teammates leave out the “together” component when it pertains to the goal of leading the inaugural Fire and Ice Tour Points Series.  Without question, this Series has brought out a level of competitiveness never before seen in this picturesque country north of the 49th parallel.

For the second weekend in a row, the huge-air team of Heath Frisby and Isaac Sherbine pounded through the Cranbrook Dodge/All Seasons Motorsports field to reach the final.  But their journey would not be a simple one.  With FSX stars Ted Culbertson, Sam Rogers, and Willie Elam in the lineup, both Frisby and Sherbine would need to be sharp from start to finish.

Frisby, coming off a momentous win in Medicine Hat was certainly the man to put the smart money on in Cranbrook.  Not intimidated by the fanfare, however, was veteran thirty-four year old rider Teddy Culbertson.  Teddy proved that not only is he an incredible rider for his age, but he is also a high-flying star that hucks a smoother Superman Seat Grab than anyone else in the field.

Round One Points tallied as follows:

Rider Round 1 Round 2
Sam Rogers 91 87
Heath Frisby 92 91
Willie Elam 85 86
Issac Sherbine 89 91
Ted Culbertson 83 84

Overall Final
Isaac Sherbine 96
Heath Frisby 95

Round Two of Fire and Ice Competition would get even more heated.  Fire and Ice Point-leader Heath Frisby would pull off a second-round score of 91, while teammate Issac Sherbine would match Frisby’s second round effort with a similarly heroic ride.  Third place went to Sam Roger at 87 points, while stylish Willie Elam logged in at 86 points.  Teddy Culbertson hit the landing ramp at 84 points, forcing him to park his sharp-looking Sled for the balance of the evening.
The Team Competition produced many different dynamics, but the end result would match that of Medicine Hat, Alberta.  Once again, both Heath Frisby and Issac Sherbine were simply unbelievable, and once again they emerged as the finalists in Cranbrook.

While most men deny that they have ever seen a Stripper, Sherbine showed everyone why they should. The Bellevue, Idaho native brought his left ankle up to the handlebars and extended his right leg over the hood to kick off the FSX Final.  Sherbine is particularly adept at over-the-bar tricks, and this was no more apparent than when he threw a perfectly executed Shaolin Barhop.  Heath Frisby would bring the crowd to its feet on his run as he gave British Columbia fans a beautiful Ninja Nac.  As good as Frisby’s run was, however, it would not give him the win.  Sherbine, with a score of 96 points, edged out Frisby by a single point for the overall win.

Following a brief intermission, music sensations Social Code took to the stage and simply blew rock n’ roll fans out of the water.  With hard driving hits like “Satisfied” and “It’s Too Late For Tomorrow”, this quintet continues to climb the music charts with “Satisfied” breaching on The Top 20.   Part way through the high-energy concert, the stars of FSX returned and performed some additional jumps choreographed to the music.  It was certainly an awesome site to see.

With two events now in the history books, the Fire and Ice Tour now takes a weekend off before heading to Grand Prairie, Alberta and Prince George, British Columbia.  Who will be the man to beat at these very pivotal events?

For that answer, we’ll just have to wait for a little while. Be sure to stay tuned right here for further updates!
