November 2, 2009 - Grande Prairie, AB #1 Event Review
(Grande Prairie, AB) The third stop on the 2009 Fire & Ice World Tour will certainly go down in history as the most competitive event yet. Sponsored by Hansen Powersports & Arctic Cat, the stars of FSX would prove to turn things up yet another notch tonight and the toughest decisions would rest in the hands of the experienced Fire & Ice judges. No doubt, the judges’ pencils would need to be sharp throughout the event as each rider battled hard for FSX supremacy.
As fans piled into Canada Games Arena for the Hansen Ford Meet and Greet, a heavy blanket of snow continued to fall outside the building. This set the mood for winter, for snowmobiles, and ultimately for big-air FSX competition. Excited Alberta motorsports fans mixed with the stars of the Fire & Ice Tour and also collected autographs from red-hot music sensations Social Code.
As the clock struck 7:30 P.M., it was time to get down to business. Round One of FSX competition saw Billings, Montana native Sam Rogers take the number one position with a great ride, earning him a score of 90 points. Heath Frisby pulled off an awesome sideways seat grab, en route to second place and a score of 89 points. Issac Sherbine impressed the judges to the tune of 88 points, while Willie Elam earned a total of 86. Ted Culbertson rounded out Round One scoring with a 79-point effort.
Round Two witnessed young star Issac Sherbine dramatically improve on his Round One scoring effort. The Bellevue, Idaho native hucked a huge Stripper and followed it up with an even bigger Shaolin Barhop. This earned him 92 points for a two-round total of 180. Other Round Two scores included Heath Frisby (90), Sam Rogers (89), Willie Elam (88), and Ted Culbertson (83).
In the Team Competition, Sam Rogers paired with Heath Frisby, while Willie Elam and Issac Sherbine formed an alliance. Rogers and Frisby looked strong early, however, Rogers overshot the Hansen Powersports landing ramp on two occasions, breaking the front shock of his high-flying snow machine. The talented pair earned 87 points, leaving the door wide open for young Elam and Sherbine. The two fearless competitors combined for a winning score of 88 points.
Going into the FSX Final, the top scorers would be Issac Sherbine and Sam Rogers. However, due to a broken shock suffered in the Team Competition, Rogers would be unable to answer the bell. This moved an ecstatic Heath Frisby into the FSX Final against teammate yet main rival Sherbine.
Many fans must have questioned the sanity of both Sherbine and Frisby as they really blew the competition wide open with some insane looking tricks. With the fans on their feet, Sherbine hucked out a huge effort and appropriately earned a final round score of 92 points. Frisby charged right back during the four-trick Final Round and gave Grande Prairie fans much more than they paid for. With two simply incredible performances, the decisions would rest in the hands of the judges. And when they finally made their decision, it was announced that Frisby fell just one painful point short of the victory. Make it two Final Round wins for Issac Sherbine in as many attempts. It is without question that the native of Bellevue, Idaho is going to be tough each and every event.
The second show here in Grande Prairie is set for Friday, October 30 at 7:30 P.M. Don’t miss the exciting action as these incredible FSX athletes look to become the first ever Fire & Ice Tour World Champion!
